How do I register for classes?
Answer: Registration is made easy either in person at our Monticello office (800 W. Fisher Street) or by calling 574-583-ZONE (9663). Or click here to register for our Online Classes.

What is a Learner Permit?
Answer: A driver education learner permit is a limited learner’s permit. After obtaining the driver education learner permit, a student may drive with a certified instructor or licensed parent/guardian throughout the duration of the driver education course. Upon completion of the course, with a signed permit, a student may drive with any adult 25 and older that holds a valid operator’s license.

When do we need to insure our child?
Answer: Most insurance companies require that new drivers be insured the day they get their operator's license.

When can I get a permit?
Answer: Currently a Driver Education Learner Permit can be obtained at age 15. 

How do I apply for a Learner permit?
Answer: Apply at your local BMV with the following:
Certificate of Birth (health dept. original)
Social Security Card
2 Proofs of Address (report card, bank statement)
Completed Certificate of Driver’s Education (CDE) Form *Provided by SZDA
Be able to pass a standard vision test
Must take and pass a written test – (See SZDA for test details)
A parent or legal guardian must sign a financial responsibility agreement
Are all vehicles dual control?
Answer: All our vehicles are controlled by both the student and instructor and are fully insured.

Can the student choose their driving times?
Answer: We strive to meet busy schedules by offering daytime, evening and weekend drives. All driving sessions are scheduled at the student’s convenience.

What are the requirements for taking the Drive Test Waiver at Safety Zone Driving Academy?
Answer: All students who pass both the in-class and behind-the-wheel portions of our driver education program qualify for the drive-test waiver. The test is approximately 15 minutes in duration and for a small fee can be taken anytime upon completion of the course.
